Lina
Lion
Too Loud for Lina Lion
Hyperacusis is a disorder that causes individuals to experience sound as pain. It is very common within the Autistic community but misunderstood. Lina is a lion, an animal known for its loud roar. I chose this animal specifically to show how hard it is when a child feels different from their own family. Despite her struggles, Lina is able to make a lot of progress. The treatments seen in the book are the actual treatments used for individuals with hyperacusis. The doctor in the book is named after my own audiologist, who took my molds for special earplugs and helped me make a treatment plan to protect my ears.

Lina Lion Makes A Friend
In the second book in the Lina Lion series, Lina feels lonely because there are no other lions who experience sound like her. She is introduced to an unlikely friend with whom she ultimately forms a bond. Despite being a prey animal, this new addition makes Lina’s life a lot happier. The goal of this book is to show children that your parents don’t have to experience everything you do to support you and your friends don’t have to be exactly like you to understand you.
