J.J. Super Sloth
and Zooms

J.J. Super Sloth

The idea for J.J. Super Sloth came when I tried to explain what it was like to have ADHD. So many people view the disorder as something that makes you move really really fast, but, in my experience, I don’t feel like I’m moving fast. I just feel like everyone else is moving slow. I chose an animal known for being slow to show how out of place you can feel when you are not moving like those around you. J.J. learns to control his extra energy and adapt to what he needs in a story told without technical jargon or labels.

Adventures in Slowing Down

I thought it was important to show J.J., someone who struggled to slow down in the first book of this series, as a mentor in the second book. His struggles don’t stop him from helping his new friend, Zooms. They make him the perfect friend for the job because the two understand each other. The goal of this book is to show children with ADHD that they have the potential to be leaders and helpers because anything is possible.
